There, in the hands of the Maya and other Indigenous civilizations of what is now Central America, cacao flourished—not just as a crop, but as a divine companion.
To our ancestors, cacao was not candy. It was ceremony. It was medicine. It was time and energy.
They drank it daily, ground with maize, flor de cacao, chile, and wild honey—served in clay vessels and offered during births, weddings, and farewells. In cacao, they saw strength, fertility, and the sacred rhythm of life.
And still today, across the hills and humid forests of Central America, cacao lives on—not only in the soil, but in the hands, hearts, and rituals of those who have never forgotten. At Cru, we honor this lineage in every cup—because cacao is not just an ingredient. It is life made drinkable

At Cru, our mission is to bring chocolate home—to the place where comfort lives, rituals begin, and flavor has meaning.
Home is not just where you drink chocolate, it’s also where cacao is grown—on small farms across Central America, cared for by the hands of women who carry generations of wisdom. We work directly with them to create farm-fresh chocolate that nourishes both their homes and yours.
Every batch of Cru is made with just two pure ingredients—always fresh, always honest, always rooted in care.

Founded in 2016 by Karla McNeil Rueda, an Honduran woman, industrial engineer, and culinary artist.
Karla couldn't find all-natural and sustainably-made chocolate drinks that were up to her high standard of quality, flavor, and purity.
So, she started Cru Chocolate to make them for herself and for people like her who refuse to compromise their ethics and taste for a drink.
Working closely and directly with passionate and skillful farmers allows Cru to bring the freshest, most potent, and highest-quality ingredients from the farm to California, where flavors are formulated, crafted , and packaged into beautiful chocolate drinks, warranting only the best.
Deeply rooted in Mesoamerican cacao and chocolate heritage, Cru is empowered to re-imagine a new world of chocolate, where farmers and chocolate lovers can drink to a better future.
